In learning more about the models of Inquiry Based Learning, I feel the Project Based model best fits into my novice French classroom. It has taken me awhile to come up with a first project but finally the idea of connecting it to National French Week came to mind. Participating in National French Week has been a goal of mine for many years so I am happy to realize how as a PBL I can implement the event. The following is a preliminary synopsis of the project.
Inquiry Question: C'est quoi Mon français, mon avenir? (what is my French, my future?)
Authentic: The 17th annual National French week will take place November 1-7 this year. This celebration of Francophone culture is organized by the American Association of Teachers of French to promote and demonstrate reasons for learning French. A video and essay contest is held for students across the country in support and acknowledgement of National French Week.
Purpose: Students will celebrate national French Week to promote their choice in learning the language and about the cultures that speak French.
Objectives: I hope that by participating in this national event, my students can better recognize the usefulness of French in their life and connect with francophone community members.
